As part of my gratitude practice, I’ve decided to post once a month about the things that bring me joy. 1. Baking chocolate chip cookies.

With everyone sick at home, baking chocolate chip cookies with my little guys brought us all a little bit of much-needed joy.

Chocolate chip cookies are my husband’s favorite treat. He was pretty happy to come home to a plate of freshly-baked cookies this week. Our chocolate chip cookies aren’t fancy. We stick with the Nestle Toll House recipe on the back of the bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips.

One of my favorite things about chocolate chip cookies is that it only takes about 20 minutes from the time you begin making the dough until they are ready to eat! I know that’s is a small thing, but with impatient sick kids at home, this little detail made a huge difference.

2. Reading a Hardcover Novel

While I love my Kindle Paperwhite. I also really love reading actual books.

This month I’m reading The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn. This is the book I chose from my Book of the Month subscription.

It’s a psychological thriller about a woman with agoraphobia who “witnessed” a crime while under the influence of alcohol and medications for her condition. It’s a real page-turner!

3. Drinking Green Tea

Bronchitis made drinking coffee less than appealing this month.

I’ve switched to drinking green tea with honey and lemon. And, I think I may stick with this new morning beverage. There’s something about drinking tea that brings me comfort.

What about you? Do you prefer coffee or tea?

4. My New Water Bottle

One of my goals is to drink at least half body weight in ounces of water a day. I bought a new water bottle to help inspire me to keep up with this new goal.

The bottle has time marks on it for tracking how much water I drink throughout the day. The marks have been motivating me to keep drinking.

I’ve used the bottle for the last two weeks, so the jury is still out to see if it keeps me motivated. But so far, it’s working.

5. The 14-Day Self-Love Challenge

We started the 14-Day Self-Love Challenge this week and I am loving the participation of the women going through the challenge in the She Has A Plan Facebook Group.

Seeing everyone take time to love on themselves during this challenge is bringing me a ton of joy!

Tell me, what’s bringing you joy this month? I’d love to hear about it in the comments section below.

  1. I am both a tea and coffee drinker. My morning choice is coffee and my evening is a cup of Chamomile before bed. Truly relaxes me. I am a page turner kinda girl, however, I do love my nook from time to time. I am also focusing on my water intake LOVE that water bottle! And a big YES to Chocolate Chip Cookies!

  2. I do love that my Kindle Paperwhite lights up, which is good for reading at night. But physical books will always be my favorite. I do want to check out The Woman in the Window! Mmm…homemade cookies. Nothing better.

  3. Fitbit – tracking my steps and sleeping patterns, reminding me to get up and walk during the day.

Taking 15 minutes to connect with each kiddos and husband before bedtime routine makes me feel part of their lives.

New laptop – finally! so I can focus on saving all my Mom Choose Joy documents online in one place.

  4. I have been home almost all week with one sick kid. Now it looks like the other 2 will be keeping us home for the next few days. Snuggling with them brings me joy. I don’t drink coffee or tea, but I sure do enjoy a cup of hot cocoa! Reading good books brings me joy. I mostly indulge myself with inspirational romance, but I recently discovered the Hannah Swensen mysteries – Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder was my first. They’re fun!
Listening to inspiring music also brings me joy.
